McKayla Maroney releases first single

Fierce Five member and legendary vaulter McKayla Maroney is back.

No, Maroney isn’t making a comeback, but she is back in the limelight with her first single.

The 2012 Olympic team gold medalist and vault silver medalist released her first song, titled “Wake Up Call,” around 2:00 a.m. ET on Saturday.

The cover art for the song features a simple black background, the name of the song, and what seems to be her stage name: just McKayla.

The retired gymnast has been teasing her music on social for a while. She follows in the footsteps of fellow Olympian John Orozco as another gymnast turned musician.

Maroney’s twitter bio says she is “excited for [this] new chapter.”

The 24-year-old retired from gymnastics in 2016. In October 2017, Maroney accused USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar of repeatedly molesting from the age of 13 until her retirement. Nassar is now serving a 40-to-175-year prison sentence.

P.S. We can’t not show THE McKayla Maroney vault that made her a household name in 2012. You’re welcome.
