Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens make marriage official with Mexico wedding
Congratulations are in order for Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles and NFL star Jonathan Owens! The couple had their official wedding ceremony in front of 144 guests in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on Saturday, May 6.
The couple began dating in 2020 after meeting on the celebrity dating app Raya. They later got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2022.
The couple’s official wedding comes exactly two weeks after they were legally married in a courthouse ceremony in Houston, Texas, on April 22. Biles, who will go by Simone Biles Owens moving forward, has kept fans and followers up to date on wedding details and their plans on social media without giving too much away.
After they were legally married, Biles did a Q&A on her Instagram story where she shared that if the couple was not having a destination wedding, they would not have done the intimate courthouse wedding. They simply had to be legally married before their ceremony in Mexico.
The Olympian also revealed on her story that she was expecting about 140 guests at Saturday’s ceremony and that she would be wearing four – yes, four – different dresses at the wedding. Biles also comedically noted the budget for the wedding went out the window.
As expected, the wedding was a star-studded event, with gymnastics royalty in attendance. Biles’ former Olympic teammates and close friends were in attendance, including Melanie de Jesus dos Santos, Aly Raisman, Maggie Nichols, Madison Kocian, Jordan Chiles, and Katelyn Ohashi.
Another fun moment followers got to watch during her journey to marriage was Biles’ fairytale bridal shower. The flawless and elegant event was held on April 1 with current World Champions Centre gymnasts like Zoe Miller, Joscelyn Roberson, Tiana Sumanasekera, and more in attendance to celebrate the soon to be bride.
The new beginnings don’t stop here for the couple. Simone and Jonathan are also in the process of building their first home together, which Biles gives regular updates about on her social channels.
While the free agent safety is on the hunt for his next NFL team, Biles is expected to make an announcement about the future of her gymnastics career in the coming months. There have been signs that Biles is back in the gym training for the Paris Olympics, and she has made clear she hasn’t formally retired, as she is still being drug tested. Time will tell if there’s a third Games in store for the 26-year-old.
Still at the height of their athletic and professional careers, Biles also revealed that they are waiting to have children, so before you ask, no Biles Owens babies for the forseeable future!
