‘Simone vs Herself’ premieres June 15 on Facebook Watch

“Simone vs Herself”, the latest iteration of the Facebook Watch Versus series, premieres Tuesday, June 15. The series will highlight the behind-the-scenes life of the five-time Olympic medalist and her journey to the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The seven-episode documentary marks the third “season” of the Facebook Versus Series, highlighting today’s top athletes and their journeys within their respective sports. The previous two seasons of the series have starred Tom Brady and Steph Curry, respectively.

Along with her five Olympic medals (four gold), the 24-year-old gymnast is also a 25-time World medalist and seven-time U.S. all-around champion, making her a perfect candidate for a series focused on the best of the best – more often referred to as “GOATs” – of various sports.

In the weeks leading up to the Tokyo Games – which open July 23, with gymnastics at the games beginning July 24 – Biles will take viewers through her gymnastics career, and the inevitable outside factors that played a role in getting her to this point, beginning back at the age of six.

“At six years old, I didn’t know what they saw in me,” Biles said in the official trailer released last week. “I just felt like a normal kid. I didn’t see anything special.”

The docuseries, which was initially announced in early 2020 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, will also cover what Biles has been up to in the past year since the Olympics were postponed, including how she had to adapt to the circumstances and focus more on the mental side of things.

At that point in time, Biles acknowledges there was a fear that she wouldn’t come back to these games as good as she was at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Fast forward a year, and Biles is coming off winning her seventh U.S. all-around title and, in another historic moment, becoming the first woman to compete the Yurchenko double pike in competition.

All this to say, things seem to be running smoothly for the gymnast as the final countdown to her long-awaited second Olympics begins.

The series will also touch on Biles’ personal life, with the gymnast pointing out the importance of taking time to be “human” outside of the gym. The trailer also shows footage of her spending time with her boyfriend of over a year, Houston Texans safety Jonathan Owens.

With the Opening Ceremonies less than six weeks out, Simone vs Herself promises to provide a great preview and inside look into one of Team USA and the Tokyo Games’ biggest stars.
